Chapter 3: Adversity Part One

Still in phase one, we allow the readers, no matter their reasoning for reading this book to acknowledge who they are as an athlete or performer of any kind. The first chapter of phase one, allows them to understanding their definition of adversity and how it affects them.

ADVERSITY: A barrier, keeping one from being able to achieve success of their expectations in the moment.

In phase one, we also begin to separate the athlete self from the other roles that we have to play in life, and even further break down our athlete selves into the three parts: physical, mental and emotional.

In this particular chapter we identify how adversity affects you not only physically but mentally and emotionally. What thoughts are you having when things are not going your way? What emotions show up when you are having a hard time achieving success in your expectations? In a basic undemanding of therapy, we know if your mental and emotional state are altered negatively, it also affects your physical self, creating a bigger burden on your athlete self to achieve and compete.
