Still reminding in phase one of the book, we are making a small adjustment to what adversity is, as this new definition will be the first building block into becoming the athlete and performer that we want to be.
Adversity: A privilege – an opportunity to prove skills that were honed and take your athlete self to the next level.
The reshaping of adversity came with the idea of “artificial adversity” where we acknowledge that adversity can actually be a tool to increase our ability to achieve success and prepare us to the highest degree come time to compete and perform.
According to CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) principles, if we can change our thoughts, we can change our actions. By then changing our actions, and forming a more optimistic outlook, we keep our body primed for performance, instead of being in a fight or flight with the nervous system.
This simple reframing, can happen now. What adverts do you face currently that you can look more of as an opportunity to prove self? What will it prove to you in accomplishing this opportunity? How can we make this a consistent state of mind?
