Chapter 4: Athlete Self

Unbreakable Athlete Book Link

The most foundational part of phase one of the book is helping the really understand the importance of separating your athlete self from the rest of the roles you play in life. This chapter goes into greater detail of what I mean by that, and the benefits of being able to do so.

The expectations that we hold for success are very different based on the lens of the role of life we are currently in. For contact sports, one will not make the necessary tackle or inflict pain to someone when they are in the realm of competition, viewing the expectations as a family member, friend, student or so on. Athletes, in the realm of competition have a unique set of expectations that need to perform to become successful.

So, in this chapter we talk about who you are as an athlete or performer, what are your required self and projected expectations for your sport, what personality traits separate you from the other roles of life and what skill sets are unique to your athlete self.
