Optimism For Not Just Sports, But Also Life Beyond Sports

Today I begin to mentally prepare for a “presentation” or really an introduction of skills to a sports team from my Alma Mater. What I am planning on talking about is nothing new to me, as I talk and research this subject often for a long period of time.

What I do every morning after waking up at 4:45 AM, is find time and quiet in the park in front of a lake where I read. My current read is “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl and it brought up a theme, a theme of Optimisim and how important it is for surviving brutal points of life. The same optimism that helps athletes perform at their highest levels for longer periods of time.

To build our athletes from the inside out is the main objective for better performance, but to also provide them with enhanced life exeperiences even when the sport is done. Making this connection, made me reflect on all that football has done for me in preparing me for life after sports such as incrased optimism, better baseline confidence, and of course the ability to take care of myself physically.

What are some things your sport provided for you, that help you in your life after sports? In your career?
